On Wilshire Boulevard, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) brings art from around the world together in a Los Angeles museum with rotating exhibitions. Its location in the city’s Museum Row makes it easy to build an outing around more than one museum. Plan around timed-entry tickets and the museum’s weekly schedule.
- Address: 5905 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036
- Gallery format: art from the global collection presented on one level, with rotating exhibitions
- Hours: Open Thursday to Tuesday; closed Wednesday

What to see at LACMA
LACMA’s galleries bring together works from its global collection in a single-level presentation, alongside rotating exhibitions. That format gives the museum room to change how it presents the collection rather than relying on a fixed display.
The museum’s roots go back to the Los Angeles County Museum of History, Science, and Art, established in Exposition Park in 1910. It became a separate art-focused institution in 1961 and opened at its Wilshire Boulevard location in 1965.
For a broader museum visit, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and Petersen Automotive Museum are nearby. The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures visit guide can help you plan time at the film museum.

Admission, hours and advance planning
All visitors need to purchase or reserve a timed-entry ticket to enter LACMA’s galleries. Tickets are available online or at the Ticket Office during regular museum hours, and admission includes access to the museum and its current exhibitions.
